PERSONAL DOCUMENTS
A passport or another official identity document is necessary while staying in Croatia. Visitors from most nations can stay in Croatia for up to three months.
At the request of a police officer, your obligation is to show him/her your identity document. The loss of your passport or other personal identity document must be reported at the nearest police station. The police will then issue an official report on the loss of the document.
TRAFFIC
If you drive a vehicle, it is obligatory to have a driver's license, vehicle registration certificate and the green card (for foreigners). All passengers in the vehicle must wear a seat belt. It is forbidden for the driver to use mobile devices while driving (except hands-free devices). Driving under the influence of alcohol is forbidden (0,5 g/kg) as well as under the influence of narcotics. Please observe the speed limit as well as the instructions of police officers directing the traffic.
If you have been in a traffic accident, call the police by dialling 192 or 112. If necessary, call the emergency service by dialing 112. Do not leave the scene of the accident until the police arrive.
If the traffic accident involves material damage only, call the police. You can also take a photo of the position of the vehicle, move it off the road and wait until the police arrive. In the meantime, fill in the European Accident Statement.
PROTECTING YOURSELF AND YOUR POSSESSIONS
Crime rates in Croatia are lower than in other European countries. However, we remind you of several universal safety measures that will help you to avoid becoming a victim of a crime:
If you are planning to travel to places off the beaten track take a GPS device or a cellphone with a GPS application in order to find the latitude and longitude coordinates of your location. In case of an accident or if you get lost you should send these coordinates to Croatian emergency services.
